Minimum Wage Increase

The National Minimum Wage increases with effect from October are your employment contracts up to date?. Payment of the minimum wage is a legal right and failure to pay the minimum wage can result in a claim going back up to 6 years.

The National Minimum Wage hourly rates effective from 1 October 2013 are as follows:

  • Workers aged 21 and over £6.31;
  • Workers aged between 18-20 £5.03;
  • Workers aged between 16-17 £3.72;
  • Apprentices up to the age of 19 or in their first year of apprenticeship £2.68 (unless specified in apprentice training contract).
