Agricultural Minimum Wage Changes

Posted Sep 18, 2013

October 2013 sees the expiration of the current Agricultural Wages Order.

As a result there will be no qualification related pay under the Agricultural Wages Board (AWB).

Agricultural workers will therefore now be subject to the National Minimum Wage , which is currently lower than the AWB rates of pay. There will be no protection for workers of compulsory school age and the statutory holiday entitlement is set to reduce.

Employers can, from October, employ new workers on National Minimum Wage. Contracts already in place will not be changed and the employee will still be subject to the existing terms and conditions.

Contact the Argicultural or Employment departments to dicuss the effect of the changes.
